Writing Camp

Aspiring scribes get to sharpen their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills over the course of 10 sessions.

Each week, they read works from authors of African descent, and write short pieces of their own under the auspices of experienced writers and journalists. Along the way, they improve their writing and build a portfolio. Each workshop will culminate with the compilation of students’ best work on “The Watoto Speak!,” a blog for young people’s writings.

Camp Schedule (Saturdays, 10am to 11am) 

  1. Cohort 1:  September 11, 2021 (middle school)
  2. Cohort 2: November 6, 2021 (high school mini writing camp - four sessions)&
  3. Cohort 3: December 4, 2021 ( high school mini writing camp - four sessions)
  4. Cohort 4: January 8, 2022 (middle school) 
  5. Cohort 5: March 19, 2022 (high school) 
  6. Cohort 6: June 11, 2022 (middle school)
